Agartala, capital of Tripura, a NorthEastern State of India. Agartala is a component of two words viz. Agar, a kind of oily valuable perfume tree + suffix -tala, a store house. Agar @ Agaru tree was plenty in this region i.e., entire North-East. Agaru @ Agar was referred in the context of Graet King Raghu who tied up his Elephant fleet with the Agaru @ Agar trees on the bank of Lauhitya.
Agartala was ruled by the Tipra kings. One of their earliest King was Patardan B.C. 1900. The other imporatant kings were Chitrarath, Drikpati, Dharmapha, Loknath, Sridharan, Jivadharan etc. It was under the Jaytunga Janapada and Subhanga Visaya.
